LONG SHOT KID!
Starting on June 20th , at the start of the northern hemisphere’s summer solstice 2016, 12-year-old golfer Matty Du Plessis has committed to playing as many holes as he can from sunrise to sunset for 5 DAYS STAIGHT!
You might be asking, why in the world would anyone do that?
Aside from the obvious reason that we fanatics are crazy about golf, Matty has chosen this as his creative way to garner support for two of his current projects.
The first is a documentary called The Prequel.
19News Mag pressed to get more information about it.
"The Prequel is a documentary that I am currently in research for. We are combining the promotion process from martial arts and golf. A way to promote skills and scoring and keep golf engaging. Start at the front tee and see your average score. If it's in the 100s then you are a white belt, 90s blue, 80s purple, 70s brown, 60s black, and 50s red. To go back a tee you need to be a black belt. Since starting this process mid to late May, I have graduated 2 tees. My experience and vlogs are on Youtube and will form the basis for the documentary. Once the season is complete we will work with an editor and producer to mold the experience into a doc we can take to film festivals next year." - Matty Du Plessis
The second project aims to bring awareness to a golf program for youth in India. Inspiration for this undertaking arose when he accidentally watched the documentary, Tiger Woods of Bengal.
“I appreciated all the practice and playing facilities that I have access to more after watching this film. There are so many young people around the world that love the game of golf and will do whatever it takes to play, in whatever form.” - Matty Du Plessis
We at 19News Mag have been following Matty for some time now … not in a creeper way, but more in the ‘dang, this 12-year-old has more spirit and tenacity than most have in their little finger’ sorta way.
We see you, Matty!
