A new tool for the offgolf community is online!
Since 2009, there have been several offgolf shops made available online. The 1st was created by the French street golf team, Le 19ème Trou, (thestreetgolfshop.bigcartel.com) and had everything from ubangolf balls for cheap, 2nd hand golf clubs, posters, badges, and stickers. The strict aim of this website was to help in the growth of offgolf, as made apparent by the cheapest prices on the market. Some years after another site was launched by French team, Street Golf A l’Ouest, (streetgolf-shop.fr) that sold mainly urbangolf balls. On April 16th, 2016, a 3rd shop came online and 19NEWS set out to learn more about this latest Urbangolf Shop. We are happy to see so many in our community working to increase the interconnectedness of the offgolf network. Though these sites were created by different teams/individuals, we will always have in common our love for offgolf.
UPDATE 05/07/16
In our haste, we failed to mention a 4th online urbangolf shop that has been around since 2006, making it about 10 years old. Didi Keller, founder of the site and our Swiss correspondent, was kind enough to give us a heads up about our error. You can find his shop at unfairway.com. Check it out! They sell everything from urbangolf gear to custom made t-shirts. They even have some night golf equipment in the inventory, for all you nocturnal golf fanatics out there. 19-NEWS would also like to highlight that their organization makes it a point to support all things urbangolf in Switzerland and is a proud backer of the Swiss EUGC team. Long live offgolf! Our apologies, Didi. | We welcome all feedback.
19NEWS Mag: Who is behind Urbangolf Shop?
Claudio Orlik: Real people and enthusiastic urban golfers. My wife, Patricia, and I are both members of the Stuttgart Crossgolfers (a.k.a “The Golf Fellas”) and the Urbangolf Shop is a common dream of ours that we’ve managed to bring to life. Some know me as an integral part of the urban golf family and our lives are a reflection of that. We love our sport. We are urban golfers and it shows in our shop.
19NEWS Mag: What is your aim? Are you simply taking advantage of a business opportunity or trying to help the community grow?
Claudio Orlik: Urban golf can be played anytime and anywhere, but not everyone is daring enough to walk through the city holding a club. We want people from all walks of life to be inspired to play. So we try to offer them a competent platform, with our shop, that leaves no questions unanswered.
19NEWS Mag: What will we find on this online shop?Claudio Orlik: A golf club and ball are no longer enough if you want to get involved in tournaments. We will offer a greater range of products. In addition to various golf clubs, you will also find bags, accessories, supplies, and tournament equipment (i.e. caution tape and chalk spray). Our goal is to respond to the needs of our customers and to expand the range of products available gradually. Proper golf balls and woods (Driver, Hybrid) are not available on our shop, but we have a blog to keep our customers up to date.
19NEWS Mag: Are you going to sponsor events?
Claudio Orlik: Yes! We supported the Crossgolffreunde from Aachen in this year’s EUGC qualification tournament for the German national team as their main sponsor. We are very happy about that and we intend to continue to support teams and events in this way in the future.
19NEWS Mag: What else would you like to tell our readers?
Claudio Orlik: Although urbangolf, crossgolf, and streetgolf are still considered underground sports, social networks like 19-NEWS.com and the Urbangolf Shop serve to link the community more than ever before. We are observing a marked growth in this sport with more media references and mainstream appearances of offgolfers. This means our global community is doing something right. Urbangolf Shop is proud to be a part of this larger family of players.
Claudio Orlik: We want to focus on the German market, so the shop site will only be in German.
Claudio Orlik: Urbangolf Shop is proud to be a part of this larger family of players.
19NEWS Mag: Here in Los Angeles we think the OFFGOLF family is international.
