Known as The Great White Shark, the Australian Greg Norman won more than 90 tournaments worldwide, including two British Open Championships, and claims the distinction of having held the No. 1 position in the world rankings for 331 consecutive weeks. In 2001 he added an induction into the World Golf Hall of Fame to his list of accolades. Norman’s reputation affords him strong influence in the world of golf and beyond.
In an interview by Chris Mitchell for BBC SPORT, the pro athlete shared his perspective on the necessity for an evolution of golf.
Thanks for the pledge of support to the offgolf community, Mr. Norman! Our beloved game has been made inaccessible to many, but the last 15 years of global economic distress have seen more people inspired to play golf out of bounds. The street, forest, city centers and even mountains are among the sites chosen to serve as rough and ready courses. These golf fanatics ARE the change we at 19News and Mr. Norman want to see. Throw on a t-shirt, lace-up your kicks, grab your gear and bring the future to the streets. Traditionalists welcome.
